Hey, I'm Richard!

I like to create beautiful design work. Beautiful in both function and aesthetics, by balancing product innovation and engineering knowledge. I am a Product Design and Manufacture Graduate (MEng) from the University of Nottingham. A creative person, a problem solver with a passion for all stages of the design process from concept generation to manufacture, always aiming to provide outstanding user experiences. Specialties include ideation, sketching (both traditionally and digitally) as well as product development techniques, visualisation and CAD to produce innovative solutions.

INTERESTS

Travel. Traveling has always been a part of my life as I was raised in Gabon (West Africa) and Brunei (Asia). Since then I have jumped at every opportunity to experience a new place, new cultures and new people. I believe these experiences inspire new ways of thinking, and have helped me to develop my creativity.

Snowsports. Skiing is a fairly recent hobby of mine as I started in my 3rd year of University, and was the Design Sec for the Snowsports Society by 4th year. This required me to design original content (See graphics tab) to give the society a brand identity, advertise snowsport events and also attract potential new members. It was a great position that combined two of my passions.

Tin Horse - Product Design Consultancy – Marlborough – August 2011

O2 - UX / UI Design Work Placement - Slough - December 2015
In order to broaden by design knowledge I undertook a short placement at O2 to gain an insight into how UI digital design affects its customers, and the processes involved.

Smithsonian Institute – Gabon (West Africa) – July 2013
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute researches, and provides data for studies of biodiversity. While working for the Institute I set up infrared cameras in multiple locations within the Gabonese forest to photograph elephants and track their movements. I also learnt to work with people who have a distinctly different cultural background.
